ALEXANDRA GILLESPIE, M.D.

Hello Everyone! As PathAdvantage (PA) enters its 23rd year of pathology practice, we all see the amazing advances in laboratory medicine that have occurred through the years. These advances further our ability to make the most accurate diagnosis for our patients. We doctors at PA closely monitor relevant literature to keep us on the cutting edge of both anatomic and clinical pathology that will aid our gynecologists and other healthcare professionals take the best care of our mutual patients.

With this in mind, we are excited to announce the addition of Antibiotic Resistance (ABR) gene testing to our molecular panels. This testing helps identify the most effective antibiotics for treating BV, STIs, and other conditions. Due to emerging antibiotic resistance, new CDC guidelines recommend ABR testing prior to treatment (for Mycoplasma genitalium, for example.)

PathAdvantage also offers expert consultation to optimize treatment decisions. Also related to responsible antibiotic use, PA utilizes innovative urinalysis equipment that delivers negative UTI results within 3 hours (instead of the usual 2-3 days for standard agar plate culture) which allows for more conservative antibiotic use.

In the world of gynecologic pathology, PA boasts a team of highly regarded doctors, the majority of which were former Chief Residents with advanced women’s health-oriented fellowships at high-ranking institutions. These smart and enthusiastic doctors chose to work at PA because we are run by us doctors and not owned by a corporation searching for profits and telling the pathologist what to do! These young doctors went to medical school to take care of patients. PA has grown slowly and gracefully through the years— always maintaining the goal to give our clinicians only the best and never promising anything that we cannot deliver. I hope you will visit our website sometime and meet all our pathologists.

We will continue to keep our eyes out for significant laboratory scientific advances that will enhance your practices. And, as always, all of us at PA thank you for your continued belief in us and for allowing our staff to help you care for your patients.

Sincerely, Dr. G
